- Remington introduced the .222 in 1950 for the
- moderate Model 722 bolt-action, and it was a
- fateful day indeed. The .222's appeal steadily
- grew to become, by far, the most popular .22
- centerfire round for two decades.

- The .222 Remington is considered by many to
- be the most inherently accurate cartridge to ever
- come along. It certainly enjoyed a heyday that
- few can rival, but unfortunately, has been on the
- steeply declining side of that curve for years.

- The .222 is still a great benchrest /
- medium-range varmint cartridge, should an
- opportunity present itself at a gun show. The
- little thing can propel a 50-grain bullet at over
- 3300 fps (26" barrel).
